DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PRESENTING HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE TO SECRETARY OF STATE TERRI LYNN LAND
More than 1,300 graduates set for April 26 commencement
Davenport University will present Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land with an honorary doctorate degree at the university’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, April 26 at Van Andel Arena.
More than 1,300 Davenport students will be awarded master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees or diplomas at the ceremony. Speakers will include Secretary Land after accepting her honorary degree and Interim President Michael Volk.
The honorary degree represents recognition of Secretary Land’s exceptional accomplishments as Secretary of State, professional excellence, personal and moral integrity and contributions to the community, West Michigan and the State of Michigan.
“Davenport University is proud to present this honorary degree to Secretary Land because of her leadership and commitment to the mission and values of the University,” Volk said. “Secretary Land is a role model for Davenport students by providing innovative business practices and outstanding service to her constituents, community and state.”
Since first taking office in 2003, Secretary Land's commitment to customer service has been the hallmark of her tenure in office. She has revolutionized the branch office structure by enhancing services and expanding hours as well as providing user-friendly online options.
Secretary Land’s leadership led to Michigan’s use of the first-ever voting equipment designed specifically for voters with disabilities. Davenport University students from the School of Technology were hired to work on this special project. Some of these students were asked to continue their efforts on this team after the completion of the project.
