Randolph K. Flechsig
President, Davenport University


Randolph K. Flechsig was appointed the fourth president of Davenport University by its board of trustees on September 14, 2000. He had previously served for 10 years as a member and chairman of the Davenport University-Central Region Board of Trustees.

Before assuming the Davenport University presidency, President Flechsig was chairman and CEO of Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals, Inc., a graduate medical education institution affiliated with Michigan State University. He earlier served for 11 years as president and CEO of the Hospital Council of East Central Michigan in Saginaw, which included 21 hospitals in a 14-county area

During his career, President Flechsig founded the East Central Michigan Healthcare Foundation, a charitable organization designed to build mutually beneficial partnerships among groups concerned with community health care. He also led the creation of the Health Care Alliance Pool, a local health care provider-based insurance plan for small businesses. As its CEO, President Flechsig built and managed a Physician Patient Organization of 16 hospitals and 830 physicians.

Since assuming the Davenport University presidency, President Flechsig has spearheaded unification of three Michigan colleges into one university. This effort included the establishment of a new campus in Grand Rapids, complete with campus life and athletics programs, and the introduction of academic quality enhancements such as admission standards.

President Flechsig is a member of the executive committee of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Michigan and was appointed to the Council of Presidents for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. He serves on boards for the Legacy Trust, Grand Rapids Economic Club, Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation, Hope Network Foundation and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.

President Flechsig earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati and a master’s degree in health administration from St. Louis University. He and his wife, Laura, live in Ada, Mich., with sons Harrison and Clayton.
