Student (F-1) Visa

Prospective international students who have received a form I-20 from Davenport University should contact the U.S. Embassy or Consular Office, having jurisdiction over their place of residence to find out how to apply for a student (F-1) visa. You can learn more about student visas and the application process at the Department of State website EducationUSA.

The earliest time that an F-1 visa can be granted is 60 days prior to the "no-later-than" reporting date listed on your form I-20.

The visa application process may be completed by mail, drop box, or travel agency in some countries. An interview with a visa officer is normally required. Once you contact the U.S. Embassy or Consular Office, you will receive instructions on how to proceed and a list of any forms and documents required for your F-1 visa application process.

When you apply, you may be required to provide the following information and/or documents to the U.S. Embassy or Consular Office as follows:

  • Your unexpired passport
  • A form I-20 from Davenport University
  • An acceptance letter from Davenport University
  • The receipt of $100 USD SEVIS fee paid online or by mail
  • The visa application form provided by the U.S. Embassy or Consular Office in response to your initial request
  • Evidence of your financial ability as listed in question #8 of the I-20 form
  • The visa application fee as requested in the application materials

Once you receive your F-1 visa, make appropriate travel arrangements and contact the Office of International Programs at Davenport University to notify them of your arrival plans.
